holding on to hope.

with 5 comments

Before we spend a huge chunk on remodeling the outdated kitchen, I want to live in it for a while to figure out what I need, what I want and what makes sense for the space. In the meanwhile, it definitely could use a bit of perking up. This weekend, we took advantage of the sunshine and painted the cabinet doors and existing hardware. It is a work in progress, but I’m feeling perky.

…and this is what’s coming before the end of the summer: brand new granite countertops!

p.s. Mina, if you are reading this, did you notice the tea kettle? On my trip to HomeGoods last week, I found a replacement kettle in the same color! Can you believe Husband didn’t even notice the switch?!

happy morning everyone.

No more blinding white walls bouncing light all over the room and attacking my eyeballs first thing in the morning. Ahhh so peaceful.

I still need to hang all the art/clocks/photos back up and paint the trim. More pictures coming soon.

picked a paint

Valspar’s City Storm. A “pure” grey, if there is such a thing.

chosen color

I’m going flat, not eggshell or satin. I need light to come in and get absorbed into these walls – no bouncing around rays for me.

master painting

with 6 comments

After living with the super bright white paint in the master bedroom for the last few months, I’ve decided a little bit of color will be a good thing. Because there is no arbor over the master bedroom sliders, it gets a lot of direct sunlight. The white walls actually hurt my eyes in the morning.

I’m (most likely) sticking with grey, maybe steely blue grey or a greenish or chocolate grey?

but, oh boy, these blues are pretty wonderful too.

fireplace renewal

with 2 comments

This is the “before” photo – before we even moved in. You can clearly see the outdated black hole that is the fireplace.

Today I cleaned out all the cobwebs + soot. I’m thinking about painting the interior. Black, maybe? Electric blue to match the birds on the playroom wall, maybe? I know we won’t be using it for fires, so suggestions for alternative uses are welcome.

How about stuffing it with books?
looks cute

Or maybe some fake logs?
