update on the drapes

with 6 comments

My ebay (Ikea Jorun Lov/Luv) drapes arrived. I put two sets (one pair in the center and a panel on each side of the wall). They are nice wide panels, so I’m debating slicing them down the middle to even it all out. The more I think about it, the more I like that idea. For now, they are hung and I like the look and they keep the living/dining areas so cool.

too much of a good thing

I love me some sunshine but there is a limit. I decided it was time to cover up those windows. I knew I wanted black drapes to balance out the entryway marble tile and the dark leather sofa, but simple black was boring and stripes competed with the dining room light fixture. When I saw this modern leaf pattern at Ikea, I knew it was the one. On sale too! The bad news is that I need to find two more sets to complete the room and these were on sale because they are discontinued. Fingers crossed I find them!

***Good news update. Found 2 sets on ebay for $60/set inc. shipping. Not $39 like in the store, but I’ll take ’em!***

We had these commissioned watercolors hanging above our bed for years. I’m trying something different.

Ooh…that blank wall to the left of the fireplace.

I’m thinking the perfect sunburst clock. The tricky part is that I want vintage and the mechanics may be wonky.

not so secret

TV components are ugly. We have ours tucked into a slightly less ugly Ikea Hol table/cube. Hol does a good job of keeping most of the wires hidden. The open grid pattern means the remote control still works as it should too. Being able to stick our fingers through to use the components manually for those times the remote control goes on vacation is an added bonus. Hol cubes are $30 in the store. I try Craigslist before I buy most things and snagged it for $15.

Painting or staining it is on my list, but I’m not 100% committed to keeping it and don’t want to put in unnecessary effort. For now, it does what I need it to do so I’ll just wait and see how I feel about it in the future.

naked slider

Nope, not going to do add a treatment to the sliding patio doors. Well, not with any of the ugly options out there. I much rather leave it naked than do something like this. Ick.
what to do about the slider?
…and, man oh man, how much am I loving these shades?!
The shades offer great privacy during the day while letting the sun in. At night, I draw the curtains on the bedrooms. The house feels like it is really starting to come together. Who knew that window treatments would make such a difference?

Since the bikes and trikes don’t fit easily anymore, the kids have taken up playing ball in the house.
