never say never

If you would’ve asked me a month ago if I was considering a ceiling fan for my house, I would’ve given you a polite reply and all the while been internally pondering what I’d *ever* done to make you ask me such a ridiculous question. Welp, that was then and this is now! While wandering the aisles of Home Depot one chilly weekday morning, I looked up, saw this fixture and had to have it. It has that playful, retro, simple, 1950’s soda fountain look that gives the playroom/kitchen a homey grounded vibe. The fact that it will keep us cool in the summertime is pretty nice too.

picture ledges are easy

with 2 comments

I mentioned Daughter’s wooden letters/name a while back and even showed them leaning on the inside of the window sill. They’ve been sitting in that same position for a while, just waiting on a final place to reside. I’d been putting the project off because having to nail each letter separately and perfectly spaced had me paralyzed. So.much.work.Ugh. This weekend I came up with a solution. A picture ledge! This way, I can easily lay the letters on the ledge now and just as easily change it up in the future. Maybe get some different letters or frame some of her artwork? And, I like how the ledge has a built-in look once attached to the top of Daughter’s closet (with doors permanently removed).

built-in look

Look for the picture ledge in future projects. I’m thinking a set of 3 or 4 in Son’s room as a book display!

coming together.

with 4 comments

Still waiting to hardwire her chandelier and a few other little things, but Daughter’s room is coming together. I moved the “dress-up” area to the nook next to her loft bed and hung up a mirror that Father-In-Law brought over a few weeks ago. It started off dark brown and I sprayed it white. We also took the doors off the closet for the illusion of more space and because they were freaking her out at night. I will get pictures once it is looking a wee bit neater.

These are two photos pieced together, so proportion is not accurate. Pink round rug is from here. Granny square blanket was a $20 (shipping incl.) ebay find. Love word art (on a leftover Ikea frame from headboard project) is free and can be downloaded from Brooklyn Limestone’s site, here.

pom pom, cute cute.

with 2 comments

I ordered pom poms a while back and forgot about them until they arrived in the mail today. They come unfluffed, but it is not that difficult to fluff them yourself. You could probably just make the entire pom pom yourself, but for $12 for 3, shipped, I did not mind paying a professional.

I hung them from the ceiling in a corner of Daughter’s room and they look pretty darn cute.

pink room progress

with 2 comments

Since the arrival of the princess loft bed, I’ve been inspired to get busy on Daughter’s room.

Costumes on the wall. Daughter is either in the princess costume or the Snow White costume at some point everyday. Now she has easy access and they look cute on the wall. Double duty works well in a small space.

Hearts arrived and they moved into Daughter’s room too. There is no other natural light in her room, so I’ll keep the windows bare until I figure out some other solution. Any thoughts?

adventures in spray painting

with one comment

Two new projects in the works. Both involve spray paint. This stuff is toxic. Sure, it is pretty much goof-proof, but the smell is so awful.

Up first, Daughter’s MDF letters went from black to berry.

And next, this morning’s work…formally black mirror sprayed white for either the playroom or Daughter’s room.
