Didn’t want to over think the umbrella/sails/cover/gazebo issue while the summer days slipped away.

Just moved the softub to the other side of the yard, under the tree. This is the lovely shade we get at 12 noon! Life is good.

Until Bakari, our beloved handyman, hooks up the power, we’ll use the softub as a little pool. The sun is doing a great job heating it up to a nice temperature anyway.

Oh sad face. Look at that dead grass all around! Whatever parts not shaded by my wonderful giant tree are scorched to a crisp. Here’s hoping the splashing from the tub will somehow bring it back to life!

LED Glansa string lights from IKEA – I highly recommend these little lights!
sorry, can’t find the link on their site though.

and the number 1 reason why living in the burbs is not all bad: my own personal sunset.

green day

Last night, I packed the kids up, made a trip to our local big box garden store and came away with some green goodies.

Now I have my very own string of pearls. So delicious looking. But don’t eat them – they are poisonous.

And a couple of hanging lovelies for the patio.

Can a Boston Fern be happy outdoors in California? I remember seeing them hanging all over in New Orleans, but it is incredibly wet out there.

summer living

with 5 comments

My parents redecorated their family room and we inherited a really nice wicker sofa set. Now our backyard deck is a summer living room. Thanks, Mom + Dad ❤

Rather than cover or change the upholstery, we will bring the cushions in during any random rains and store them in the guest room closet. Thanks to Reena for that tip.

a safer swing.

After a series of slips, I got smart and ordered skateboard griptape to adhere to the seats of our Ikea Ekorre swings.

Ekorre Swing

You can cut out any design you want; so fun, right? I took the fast + easy route, utilizing the bottom of a glass to make me a pair of circles. I like the simple and my kids won’t face- plant into the deck anymore. Win/Win.
